Kaiwa Sushi |
For all of you who love sushi, head to downtown Walnut Creek to Kaiwa Sushi. We've tried them all and find Kaiwa to be the best. It has been our experience (and many of our friends') that the owner serves up the very freshest sushi and sashimi in town. Prices are reasonable, quality is consistent and service is good most of the time. On weekends you can expect to wait for a table. Decor is understated with outdoor dining available. Portions are generous. |
The Dead Fish |
Awesome crab! Not only does this Crockett institution offer up fantastic food and great service, but its' unique location overlooking the Carquinez bridge and the shipping traffic beneath presents a breathtaking view for your dining pleasure. The cabanas on the terrace offer a great 3-season dining experience. This place is definitely worth the 20 minute drive from Walnut Creek. |
Montecatini |
Here is where I found the very best veal picata in the area. You must visit this very crowded (and very noisy) Italian restaurant. Montecatini's cozy dining room is always packed, often with regulars. The chef serves up the pastas al dente, the vegies fresh and crisp, and the fish always flaky. The wait staff is consistently efficient and friendly, even at a frantic pace. Although reservations are a good idea (especially on weekends), they always seem to do all they can to seat you even if you don't call ahead. This place has become one of our favorites. Prices are reasonable and the wine list is adequate. |
Oriental Pearl Restaurant |
In San Francisco and looking for somewhere to eat in Chinatown? My favorite stop is the Oriental Pearl Restaurant located near the corner of Clay and Grant. Mr. and Mrs. Chan take very special care to make their patrons comfortable. The food is always fabulous and Mrs. Chan's recommendations have consistently been a delight to our palates. My personal favorite (and you won't find this on the menu) is Beef with Black Bean Sauce & Sugar Snap Peas. Ahhh, my mouth waters just thinking about it. The service is always terrific, even with large groups. Dinner prices are moderate, with most entrees between $10 and $15. Call for reservations. |
The Carnelian Room |
Exquisite views and good food are found at The Carnelian Room on the 52nd floor of the Bank of America Building in San Francisco's financial district. The formal atmosphere (jackets are required for men) is comfortable and the service is efficient and thorough. We found the fixed price menu offers a variety of tantalizing entrees and the appetizers and desserts are no less interesting. This restaurant is a little pricey but the quality of the food and service plus the spectacular view make it a worthwhile visit. Bon apetit! |
Patrick David's Cafe |
Patrick David's Cafe in Danville serves up one of the most interesting and creative menus we have experienced yet. Located in the Mercantile & Livery retail complex near the Sycamore Valley West exit off I-680, this small, very crowded and somewhat noisy restaurant offers menu items like pan seared ono tuna with sesame atop wasabe mashed potatoes with plum wine sauce. Or boneless lamb chops surrounding butternut squash topped with a potato sculpture. The entrees are presented in such an attractive manner that you are compelled to stop to enjoy the appearance of the meal before you take the first bite. My husband and I shared the sushi platter for our appetizer and were absolutely delighted with the cucumber roll, crab roll, tuna and salmon sushi, which were incredibly fresh. Our waiter interrupted our group during the appetizers to ask who wanted to order the souffle or apple cobbler for dessert (each takes 25 minutes to prepare). Those of us who indulged in dessert were not disappointed. The souffle was a marvelous chocolate cake-like shell enveloping mouth-watering liquid fudge. Definitely a fabulous meal. There were fifteen of us and the wait staff was extremely attentive and timely. Patrick David's Cafe has become a new favorite of ours. |
